The popularity of PC gaming today can only be described as phenomenal. This sector of technology has grown so rapidly over the past decade. PC gaming is everywhere these days thanks to the growth of the personal computer. Society has been so impacted with the revolution of the personal computer in the home. Not only has it given us access to the entire world, through the Internet, it has also brought a deluge of video games into the hands of children and adults alike.

Kids and many adults love computer games. When it comes to the Internet, whole communities can be formed around one single video game. When I say communities, I mean online communities, which also have been brought into existence by the Internet. People chat online about games, share ideas, give tips on how to beat a game and on secret places in a game where extra men or more energy can be found.

In addition to online communities being formed around popular PC games; people all over the world are now able to play games together; being linked and able to communicate through the Internet. Having a personal computer in the home that is linked to the Internet really has opened up a whole new and exciting world in gaming.

Video games can be purchased and installed onto a computer in a variety of ways. Traditionally, you would get a game on a floppy disk or CD. These days, you may get your game on a DVD or even download it directly from the Internet. You can even play hosted video games on your PC, competing against players from all over the world that are online at the same time as you.

Video games require a lot of memory. In order to render the quality graphics that games are made with these days, a PC needs a lot of RAM. Your computer definitely needs to have a sound card installed (although most computers come with that these days), a lot of video RAM and some type of graphics enhancer. Without this, you will have a very frustrating time of trying to play games. Your computer will freeze, sound will be garbled and what should be very smooth transitions from scene to scene will become jagged.

The PC gaming industry is one that is not stagnant but ever moving, ever changing. Game developers work tirelessly to produce newer versions of games that blow away anything that has ever been done before. At the same time, hardware developers continue to produce machines with larger memory capacities, improving game quality and the potential of what can be done with future PC games.
